The pump is essentially the heart of the swimming pool’s circulation system. A swimming pool pump consists of the electric motor, an “impeller” and “diffuser” (which actually move the pool water), and the strainer basket and the housing that the basket fits down into.
Swimming pool pumps are available in a variety of sizes and are measured in horsepower (listed as HP on the label of your pump motor). If you are replacing your pool pump but still are using your old pool filter, your new pump needs to be the same HP size as your old pool pump. Otherwise, you can replace the whole system to better fit your pool size and needs.
Pumps usually last 10 to 12 years, even after 2 or even 3 motor replacements.
